At Evesham Dental Health Team on Broadway Road our focus is prevention and how we personalise and specialise care to help our patients keep their teeth for life.
Our Evesham dentists and hygienists achieve this by educating our patients, who come from Evesham, Broadway, Cheltenham, Chipping Campden, Pershore, Worcester, Stratford, Winchcombe, Bidford, Alcester and beyond, and encouraging regular dental and hygiene visits.
We also keep a close eye on advances in technology and dental research, which is why we sell xylitol gum, sweets and sugar, and recommend them to our patients, especially those who are vulnerable to decay.
Xylitol is a healthy sugar that has been proven to prevent many oral and respiratory diseases and is even recommended for babies. Xylitol is found naturally in vegetables, fruits and trees, tastes similar to sugar but with 40% fewer calories, and is safe for diabetics.
The European Food Safety Authority said that: “chewing xylitol gum reduces the risk of caries (decay) in children” and there is evidence to say that newborn babies benefit from xylitol if their mums eat it before delivery of their child and up to three months afterwards.
Products containing xylitol are now endorsed by more than 15 dental associations worldwide and xylitol has a European Food Standards Authority approved health claim for plaque reduction. Clinical studies have repeatedly shown dental benefits when regularly consuming products sweetened with xylitol.
Xylitol helps to prevent plaque bacteria sticking to the teeth. Studies have shown that xylitol can help reduce tooth decay and even help reverse the decay itself by helping to replace the minerals in tooth enamel.
During research trials another health benefit was discovered – fewer ear infections! This has led to the development of xylitol nasal sprays for adults and children, which also have a positive effect on allergies and asthma. Members of our team will be trying the nasal spray next summer to protect against hay fever – so we’ll keep you posted on its success.
Our xylitol products are priced from just £1.95, so please pop in to find out more.
