Katharine, one of our kind-hearted dental therapists, joined the health charity BrushUp UK recently to help teach staff in a Cheltenham nursing home how to care for their clients’ teeth.
The Evesham Dental Health Team therapist, who enjoys helping patients achieve optimal gum health, and treating nervous patients and children, also has an interest in dementia care.
She has volunteered her services in her own time and is helping to spread different oral health messages through the charity that strives to improve the oral hygiene and attitudes towards oral health for all the people it supports.
BrushUpUK is a free oral health educational programme. Katharine joins a team of BrushUpUK qualified dental care professionals who provide tailored presentations to schools, SEN schools, care homes and palliative care units in Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, delivering practical, sensory and visual displays.
The teams of dental professionals come from local dental practices that are affiliated with BrushUpUK. The dental practices pay for their qualified oral health educator dental nurse’s time, one day per month, to help their local community and spread the oral health message with BrushUpUK.
As qualified oral health educators, they have learnt and exercised a multitude of skills and theoretical knowledge within their Diploma qualification or further OHE certificate. Throughout the process they will be guided, mentored and supervised by BrushUpUK.
